It’s infuriating, depressing, scary that we have further to go to integrate our public schools than we did in the ‘70s. 😖
I also found the play even more powerful than I did at NYTW. Not sure if it was because I knew what was coming (which completely changes the first act) or from changes made for this production.
I did end up psychomatically mute by the end (and still can’t speak several hours later), so, yeah, lots of feelings.
So I went to see Slave Play tonight and, during the talk after, a white woman got up—without being called on—and straight up screamed at Jeremy O. Harris and Joaquina Kalukango about how the play was racist towards white people.
Harris gave incredible answers to her but she wouldn’t shut up until security escorted her out.
